Five years since the Avenger retired, his original purpose now long gone.
There’d been other heroes, copy cat heroes.. But none lasted long.
“Uncle George?” The two voices spoke as one. “Why did you stop?”
“The Shadow killed your uncle Timothy right in front of me. I cleaned blood off my costume that night and burnt it.” “But what about everything?” “The Mischievous Minstrels?” “The regular crooks?”
“I realised.. It made me realise that I wasn’t immortal. Everything was suddenly so.. real. I felt like I could lose the two of you, too. So you’re to stop immediately.”
“What?”
“I know what you’re up to, at night, the two of you. ‘The One’. Very clever. But it stops tonight.”
“You can’t make us.” “No.”
“Oh yes, boys.” He takes a small gas canister from the shelf. “Yes, I can.” He weeps as he erases the memories of his nephews.
